2025 Summer KAI-X Research Internship Program - FAQ

Q1: Who is eligible to apply for the KAI-X Summer Research Internship Program?
A1: Overseas undergraduate students (3rd/4th year) and graduate students (master's course) in the field of natural sciences, including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Brain & Cognitive Science, and Medical Science, are eligible to apply.

Q2: What is the duration of the internship?
A2: The internship will take place from July 1 to August 16, 2025, lasting 7 weeks.
 

Q3: When is the application period?
A3: The application period is from January 1 to February 5, 2025, until 24:00 (Seoul Time, UTC+9).
 

Q4: What documents are required for the application?
A4: The required documents include:

: All documents must be written in English.
  If any official documents are not in English, please submit a notarized English translation along with the original documents.

Q5: How do I apply for the internship?
A5: To apply, email all required documents (the Excel application form and 1 PDF file) to the KAI-X office at kai-x_internship@kaist.ac.kr.
 

Q6: How are interns selected?
A6: If selected, you will be assigned to one of the three laboratories you’ve indicated in your preferences.
You will engage in research activities during the internship.
Notifications about selection outcomes will be sent by March 31, 2025.
 

Q7: What kind of support is provided to the interns?
A7: The program provides the following support:

-Round-trip airfare expenses, with a maximum limit of 1 million KRW 
  (*If the airfare exceeds 1 million KRW, the applicant will need to cover the difference.)
-Dormitory expenses, not exceeding 500,000 KRW
  (KAI-X will arrange the reservation and assignment of dormitories at KAIST.)
-Living expense support of 500,000 KRW  

Q8: Will I be informed about the selection results?
A8: Yes, you will be notified individually about the selection outcome by March 31, 2025.
 

Q9: Can I apply if I am not currently enrolled in a degree program?
A9: No, applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate (3rd or 4th year) or graduate (master's course) program in a relevant field of natural science.
 

Q10: Are there any additional benefits for the internship?
A10: The program mainly covers airfare (up to 1 million KRW), dormitory costs (500,000 KRW), and living expenses support of 500,000 KRW.
There are no additional financial benefits, but the experience of conducting research at KAIST is a significant opportunity.
